The word "transcreation" has been diluted to the point where it sometimes just means "translation that tried a bit harder". What we mean by it is specific: a campaign line that works in Italian may need to be completely rebuilt in German to achieve the same effect. A product description written for an Italian audience may use humour, warmth, or directness in a way that sounds strange or off-brand in Japanese. Transcreation is the work of making content feel like it was written in the target language, not processed through it.
Our transcreation team is made up of copywriters who are native speakers of the target language and who have professional experience in marketing communications. They start from the strategic brief, not the source sentence. If the original uses a cultural reference that will not land in the target market, they replace it. If a tagline relies on wordplay that does not exist in the target language, they write a new one that achieves the same emotional response.
